It has taken us a while to get to this point but proponents of new ideas of 'how and why we do what we do' now have a model that explains in amazing detail exactly what is happening. We began to realize that we might be more 'programmed' than researchers thought - and certainly this idea seems counter intuitive to us... we see a situation, we think about it, we decide on a course of action... right? Well, maybe not.
You're probably most familiar with the idea of mental programming due to the 'Fight or Flight' response. Most of us have heard about it, most of us know someone who has experienced it (the classic 'slowing down' of time as the mind automatically switches us into the subconscious) and some will have experienced it themselves (traffic accidents are the most common moments when this occurs). So we know about this hidden 'program' and accept how it cuts in without our conscious permission when the subconscious decides it should, and familiarity leads us not to look deeper.
Why do we assume that this is the only such 'auto program' we have?
That's an interesting question in itself, however, recent research indicates that it most certainly is not. Our brains - largely unchanged since the Paleolithic era some 250,000 years ago - appears to contain many such primordial programs. Which, when you think about it makes a lot of sense.
It may sound controversial to say that many leading researchers believe that we are in fact 100% programmed (or at least a program lies beneath everything we do even if the conscious mind handles some of the minor details). This comes from many disciplines, physics for instance points out that (leaving aside Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle) randomness is impossible. Everything is cause and effect. In us that means we are never truly spontaneous - sometimes we 'act' like we are because it's what we're programmed to do to get the response we want from others.
If this is indeed the case then it changes EVERYTHING
A free flowing mind moving from situation to situation based on decisions made in the moment would be almost impossible to change - meaning, if it's not making good choices and your life isn't what you think it should be, then there's little we can do about it. Depressing - no pun intended...
HOWEVER if, as I certainly believe and have proved countless times, sub programs - which may make more sense if you think of them as 'beliefs' - influence what we do, then it opens up a whole new world of hope.
IF THERE IS A BELIEF AT THE ROOT OF YOUR PROBLEM THEN ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS CHANGE IT - YOUR WORLD WILL CHANGE WITH IT.
Chaos Theory And A Human Life...
What has Chaos Theory (or Non Linear Dynamics) got to do with Counseling and Therapy?
This branch of mathematics was developed to understand systems that: ARE COMPLEX AND APPARENTLY RANDOM IN NATURE such as weather patterns (the CDC uses it to predict viral spread, the money markets to get a better understanding, biologists use it to examine migration patterns - in fact it has pervaded many areas and proven invaluable).
Many people in the field have recognized that a 'Human Life' fits the criteria exactly, most pass it by because it requires a deep understanding of math which people in this field usually do not pursue. I am lucky in the fact that I started out in the field of Physics...
THIS MEANS I CAN, AND DO, USE IT - Chaos Theory provides me with a 'powerful' pattern recognition system which startlingly (well, that's how my clients react when they hear what it comes up with) predicts with staggering accuracy what those underlying BELIEFS actually are.
When we know what is driving the largely ineffectual system we call 'our life' then we can change it.
This also explains why many very adept practitioners of methods like NLP don't achieve the results they should. They are using a highly effective system for changing programs/beliefs - however, the fact that they have no real idea what those beliefs are necessitates that they will fail. TO WORK, NLP NEEDS A 'SNIPER'S BULLET' AND MOST PRACTITIONERS CANT EVEN SEE THE TARGET.
Take a moment to reflect on this...
Personally I KNOW this to be an accurate description of 'how we work' and have proven the point countless times. THE IMPLICATIONS ARE STAGGERING, discovering this is the TRUE NATURE of mind also means THAT CHANGING LIVES by changing the underlying DAMAGING OR INEFFECTUAL PATTERNS becomes not only POSSIBLE but a systematic process, with which I have achieved a remarkable success rate of 'full' change that is over 80%
I don't make such claims lightly as I will, and am, asked to prove it - my confidence comes from having done this so many times that I have total conviction in this unique blend of methods.
This system CAN and DOES change lives...
Why settle for a life that is dissatisfying at best when YOU can choose what it should be?
